Is it true that excess pregnancy weight increases the risk of long term weight gain? The answer is yes, it does. Weight gained during pregnancy and not lost is a sign of a possible long term obesity issue. When a woman is pregnant, she does gain some weight. However in the majority of cases, she will lose that weight post partum. The problem comes when she cannot lose that weight and it does raise a health and weight issue. Diet and exercise can help with the problem of long term weight gain, as well as breast feeding. Let’s look at diet and exercise when related excess pregnancy weight. It is common for a woman to feel sluggish after pregnancy and the sooner that she is able to exercise and get back on a good diet, the sooner that she will lose the baby weight. Sometimes, she just cannot lose the weight by normal means, and continues to gain weight long after the delivery of her child. In these cases more extreme intervention may be called for. Now as far as dieting goes, any type of crash diets should be avoided as well as crash diets. The reason being is that these types of diets create a deficiency of vitamins and minerals which can lead to serious health issues, especially in regards to nursing mothers.
